Mediabase Published Panel Policies

  • All airplay spins are subject to reconciliation.
  • Mediabase reserves the right to remove a station and its airplay from a panel should we determine that airplay or adds have been purchased or inappropriately aired/reported.
  • Mediabase reserves the right to remove any airplay that is connected to a commercial sponsor (record label, station client, etc.).
  • For a spin to be credited, the song must be played for a clean :61 seconds with no interruptions, including talk over or other songs mixed together.
  • No more than two spins of a single title within the same hour will be credited. Any additional airplay of the same title that exceeds the two (2) spins in any given hour, will be removed and will not count towards a station's playlist and/or Mediabase charts.
  • Discrepancies during the chart week (Sunday – Saturday) must be submitted as follows:
  • Within 48 hours of airplay airing Sunday – Thursday.
  • Friday and Saturday discrepancies need to be submitted no later than 12pm PT on Sunday.
  • Discrepancies that will have a major impact on the Published Chart will be accepted on a limited basis, but no later than 3pm PT on Sunday immediately following the chart week.
  • All discrepancies must be submitted to mbaction@mediabase.com. Discrepancies must include station call letters, dates, and specific times, as well as artist name and song title.
  • In the event of a national emergency, disaster, or weather event, Mediabase will review on a case-by-case basis to determine if a station's airplay should remain or be removed.
  • Stations missing more than three hours of airplay within a Daily Monitor will be reviewed. Inclusion of the Daily Monitor will be determined at the sole discretion of the Chart Manager and Panel committee. In the event a monitor is deemed to be unusable, Mediabase will use the most recent 7 of 14 days for the Published Panel chart week. A station will be temporarily removed from the Panel once there is not 7 of 14 current days for processing.

Recurrent Rules:

An up-to-date list of Mediabase’s Recurrent Rules can be found on the dedicated Recurrent Rules page, broken-down by each format.

Additional policies:

On all charts except Country, songs that have not peaked above the thresholds would need to be down in spins two weeks in a row to be moved to recurrent.

Excluding the Country format, songs that have become recurrent after 20 weeks will be eligible to be reinstated if they have risen back into the top 10 and are up in spins four consecutive weeks. The song will appear on the building chart at the beginning of the fifth week.

For Panel Reporting Stations:

  • Mediabase cannot accept late adds or re-adds of titles.
  • The system automatically closes at the reporting deadline for each format.
  • If a station does not log in to report their adds on a weekly basis, prior to the reporting deadline, the Mediabase auto adds function will be triggered when a station's airplay hits the abovementioned thresholds.
  • If a station does not have adds to report on a given week, the station should still log in to the system and report "no adds" which will prevent auto adds from generating at the close of the format.
  • On a week when a station has missed the reporting deadline, the station will need to officially add the song(s) the following week if they were not generated as an Auto Add.
  • Reported adds can only be reported and/or removed by designated station personnel.

Chart Share Split Policy:

  • All chart share splits must be submitted via email. Respective labels must communicate with each other and reach an agreement prior to contacting Mediabase regarding their individual percentages via email. Mediabase will not approve/adjust share without approval from all parties involved via a single email submission/request.

Mediabase reserves the right to make any changes, updates, corrections, or additions to these policies at any time as needed or necessary without advanced noticed.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Chart Eligibility

  • Mediabase recognizes that artificial intelligence may be used in the creation, production, and distribution of recorded music. Consistent with its longstanding methodology, Mediabase charts are designed to reflect actual airplay and performance across the stations, channels, services, and other entities monitored within the platform. Accordingly, recordings containing AI-generated or AI-assisted elements may be eligible for chart inclusion, provided they comply with applicable laws, rights clearances, and Mediabase chart rules and policies. Mediabase may, but is not obligated to, identify, classify, or label recordings that contain AI-generated or AI-assisted content. In making such determinations, Mediabase may rely on metadata, artist, label and distributor disclosures, information provided by digital service providers, third-party technologies, and other information reasonably available. Mediabase reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to review, classify, include, exclude, adjust, suspend, or remove any recording from its charts where concerns exist regarding unauthorized voice cloning, impersonation, infringement of intellectual property or publicity rights, fraud, manipulation, artificial inflation of performance metrics, or any other activity or circumstance that may compromise the integrity of our charts. All chart eligibility, classification, and policy determinations made by Mediabase and our Chart Editor(s) shall be final.
